Aviation Accidents

Kansas City Aviation Accident Lawyers

A passenger in a plane is helpless. When the plane is going down, the pilot is too.

After a plane crash in the United States, or any accident involving a U.S.-licensed plane, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigates -- every single crash and mishap. Their goal is to prevent the next aviation accident. At McLeod & Heinrichs, our goal is to obtain compensation for the victims of aviation accidents. We believe that effort also helps to prevent the next crash — and it provides the compensation that victims and their families need to rebuild their lives.

The Tragedy of Flight 965

American Airlines Flight 965 was a scheduled flight from Miami International Airport in Miami, Florida to Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport in Cali, Colombia. On December 20, 1995, Flight 965 crashed into a mountain in Buga, Colombia.

On that day, the Boeing 757 making the flight carried 156 passengers and 8 crew members. At 9:40 PM, just five minutes before its scheduled arrival, the plane went down in the Andes, making it the first fatal 757 incident in U.S. history. At the time, it was the worst U.S. air disaster since the downing of Pan Am Flight 103 seven years before. In the crash of Flight 965, only four passengers and a dog survived.

Attorney Rich McLeod represented one of the survivors and the estates of her parents, both of whom perished in the crash. As she lay in the wreckage awaiting help, our surviving client turned 21 years old. Eventually she was air evacuated to a hospital, and a long and difficult recovery.

The physical and emotional pain she suffered could not be avoided or undone. But the financial settlement we secured enabled her to obtain the medical care and therapy she needed to recover and begin to rebuild her life.
